NDI sponsored an in-country learning program, conducted in conjunction with Boston University School of Law. Twenty Ministry of Justice drafters and parliamentary staffers participated.
As part of the program, a group of Guyanese lawyers participated in the e-Learning course Legislative Drafting for Democratic Social Change, working with local community groups to draft a research report and bill to reduce the incidence of sexual offenses. One Guyanese participant drafted from Barbados, and another drafted a bill to increase community input into, and improve the coordination of, national economic development efforts.
Planning is in progress for ICLAD to collaborate with our Guyanese partners and alumni to develop an ICLAD-affiliated Regional Center to strengthen legislative drafting capacity.
Bills drafted:
Engineering
Establishing Sex Crimes Reporting and Investigation Procedures
Forest Management
Increasing Public Input to and Coordinating National Economic Development Efforts
