Years: 1999 (Project run through Boston University) Funder: UNDP/OECD Project 1: Ann and Robert Seidman conducted a mission to establish a project for the members of the Senate and the Majilis (parliament) at the UNDP’s request. The UNDP agreed to finance the project but the country director left, and the project was dropped. Project 2. At an OSCE-sponsored week long workshop in Almaty, drafters from four Central Asian nations met to draft bills to protect the region’s water supply. NGO representatives and officials from all four countries -- Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan -- produced a draft legislative agreement to protect the region’s water supplies. Once again the OSCE person who organized the project left and no information exists as to whether anything further came of it. |
